Title: | Batman Begins |
Score (out of 10): | 6 | | REVIEW: | Batman Begins is a lite summer comic book movie that rises up to the levels of X-men and Spidermen, but not beyond them. Director Christopher Nolan presents a dark movie that twists and turns with more than one villain and sub-plot. Most succesfully, the movie provides a realistic story explaining how the world of today made the transition to a world of men who dress up in tights and fight for things such as "good" vs. "evil".
The movie begins with a standard creation myth that has been seen several times in superhero origin stories. A rich young boy has his parents brutally murdered. He grows up wanting revenge and justice and trains himself to become a fighting machine. This is the same basic story behind Daredevil and the Punisher to name just two. Batman, played by Christian Bale, then finds himself in the Tibetan mountains training with Liam Neeson and Ken Watanabe with an odd sort of "Fight Club" philosophy thrown in to standard Ninja fare.
